The distinct look of Suspiria, it's vivid colours, were created using processing techniques from the 1950's on old film stock of which Kodak only had a few thousand feet left.

During the filming, Argento played the eerie soundtrack music to try and unsettle the actors so they gave the performance he required.

In the finale, a glass feather is plucked from an ornament and used by Susie (Jessica Harper) to kill the Black Queen. This is a reference to Argento's directing debut, 'The Bird with the Crystal Plumage'.

An earlier video version released by 'Entertainment in Video' in the UK features an edited opening murder sequence (no knife in the pulsating heart), no throat cutting in the barbed wire room and a less graphic attack on Flavio Bucci by his seeing-eye dog.
