video
First of all, it seems that this is the most complete version of TENEBRE available on dvd. It seems that there are no cuts. It is made with an Italian print: the titles are in Italian, as well as the "Tenebrae" book read by the murderer at the beginning of the movie. The picture quality is quite good. Once again, the digital work by TF1 is brilliant. Colours are beautiful and contrasts are very good. The 'crane' shot is very fluid and shows no sign of compression artifacting. The definition is good, although it is not as sharp as the French SUSPIRIA or BIRD. Some details are really impressive (steel, glass, water...), but the picture is sometimes a little blurred. I think it must respect the original cinematography. Some very rare dust spots can be noticed, but it's not really disturbing. The layer change is bad.

sound
This dvd has three original mono soundtracks: French, English (with subtitles that can't be turned off) and Italian (with subtitles that can't be turned off). The English one is, by far, the best one. It is very clean and very powerful. If sounds or voices from the movie are sometimes slightly harsh, the sound of the Goblin music is just excellent. You can watch this TENEBRE with a high volume level without getting a headache. The French and Italian soundtracks are more classical mono harsh soundtracks, with some crackles on it: nothing impressive at all.

extras
All the menus and extras are illustrated with animated pictures and stills from the movie. The opening menu shows the black gloved hand throwing the TENEBRAE book into the fire. Then, you have the hand breaking the lamp with a razor blade, and finally the hand turning the light on.

Then, you reach the main menu. Options become scratched with red lines (like the the title on the cover of the TENEBRAE book) when they are selected. The "back to menu" icon is a woman's red shoe...

Film: starts the film...
Chapters: TENEBRAE is divided into 12 chapters. You can select them from this menu, which looks like the book at the beginning of the film. An animated window surrounded by flames shows excerpts from the selected chapter.
Filmography: leads you to Dario's filmography, shown in a very "internet movie database" way.
Languages: from here you choose the French, Italian or English soundtrack.
"Envers des ténèbres" (behind the darkness): this section contains little biographies of the actors: Daria Nicolodi and Anthony Franciosa of course; as well as cool supporting actors bios: John Steiner, John Saxon and Giullano Gemma.
Interview: a 20 minutes long very interesting interview with Dario. He sounds really enthusiastic about TENEBRAE.
Internet: only a link to the TF1 video website.
