SCARLET DIVA OPERA FILM ; ITALY dvd specification

video
Scarlet Diva is a low budget production shot directly to digital video. This is evident when it comes to the sometimes harsh look of the movie. Bearing this in mind I think that DFW has released a fine DVD with strong colours, and a sharp image. The reds show no sign of bleeding, and flesh tones are fairly neutral. I think that we won't see a big improvement (except an anamorphic DVD...) picture wise than what we get here.
sound
A clear and distortion free Dolby Digital 2.0 track is what we get here. The language used is mainly Italian but large portions of the movie are spoken in English and French. The stereo track gets the job done, but no more which is really OK in this dialogue driven Asia Argento directed movie.
extras
The English menus navigate easily with John Hughes moody music accompanying your choices. As far as extras go we get a picture gallery with 12 stills. On the backside of the cover there are some liner notes about Asia's career so far, which briefly mentions Dario.
conclusion
All in all a 'bare bones' only release from DFW. The collectors edition logo on the front cover is thus somewhat misplaced. If you're multi lingual or understand Dutch and you're curious to see Asia's debut as a full length director, I can recommend this release.
