| Once again, the digital work by TF1 is really great. The cinematography by Storaro is well respected. Colours and contrast are beautiful. Definition is really stunning: there are many scenes (the murder in the art gallery...) where the movie looks as good as the "Suspiria" French dvd! There's almost no grain in the whole film (but the end titles are pretty grainy). No artefact can be noticed. The foggy scenes are a little strange (colours...), but nothing disturbing. It is made from an Italian print. It's in rather good shape, although there are a few white dusks which can't be missed. At the end of reels, stamps can be seen. I've noticed two missing frames (end of reels too). Nothing very disturbing anyway. BUT, it's obvious that a slight part of the picture is cut on the left of the screen. Quite annoying... And the layer change is very bad. |

| This dvd has an excellent original French mono soundtrack, with no noise at all. Really great... for a mono soundtrack. The Italian original mono soundtrack is a little dirtier, but once again, it's not too disturbing. French subtitles can't be taken away. |

From there you can select: About the Director: Takes you to a scrolling complete filmography of Dario Argento. Interview: a twenty minutes long audio interview with Dario Argento, illustrated with the most famous scenes of the movie. Posters: Shows two Italian posters and one French poster of "Bird..." Behind the scenes: an audio track tells you about the making of the film. It is illustrated with rare black and white stills from the set of "Bird...". It tells us that Dario began in cinema as a writer. he met the producer Lombardo. The director Bertolucci introduces Dario to a book by Frederic Brown he wanted to make a movie from. But Brown wanted too much money, and Bertolucci gave up. Argento wrote a script based on this book, and put many references to Mario Bava's giallo's in it. Producers wanted to buy this script. But Dario wanted to direct it. Lombardo let Dario direct this movie. But one week after the beginning of the shooting, he wanted to fire Dario. Fortunately, Dario had a solid contract, and he completed the movie. The movie was a success... |
