video
I think I can quite honestly say that this film has never looked as good as it does here and Blue Underground have done a great job with an excellent transfer. It is presented in the original 1.85:1 ratio and the colours are rich and vibrant - I had not fully appreciated Argento's use of colour in 'The Black Cat' segment until seeing this release. There is no sign of print damage - no white speckles or blemishes and black levels are spot on. All in all, pretty damn good.

sound
There are 3 options - DTS, 5.1 and 2.0. I cannot comment on the DTS but the 5.1 track is perfectly good enough if lacking any truely noticable surround effects. I personally do not like the Pino Donaggio score - I find it very unsubtle and intrusive - but it does sound dynamic and comes across well.

extras
There are some great extras here. Firstly there is a documentary featuring interviews with George and Dario, Claudio Argento, Asia and Tom Savini. It is very interesting to here about the making of the film and the two directors contrasting styles. The documentary is augmented by some wonderful behind the scenes footage shot by Robert Marcucci - I particulary liked the shots of Dario trying to catch and then kick a football down the street!

Then there is a featurette on the EFX in the film and how they were carried out. There are many of these type of doco's in existence but I particularly liked this one as Tom Savini's enthusiasm certainly made it very watchable. He also features in a quick tour of his house which is literally crammed full of old SFX, models, masks, swords etc...

There is a short interview with Adrienne Barbeau which took place at the time of the films release. The extras are rounded off with a comprehensive poster and stills gallery and the usual filmographies and theatrical trailer.
