| january - march 2002 |
| March 24th 2002 The title to the forthcoming book from Alan Jones has been changed to PROFONDO ARGENTO. It will be published later in the year. |
| March 24th 2002 I just got this info from Marc at www.MondoErotico.co.uk: "Apart from some nice (unclassified by the BBFC Italian trailers for BIRD, DEEP RED and CAT), there's little to recommend them. Both are cut, and both are in Italian with burnt in English subs. However, the picture is nice and sharp with stable colours, and the menu design is also a nice touch. They both feature footage of Argento (lifted from Master of Horror) as extras. If BIRD had been resubmitted I feel it would have passed without cuts. Either way, both are in effect illegal since they haven't been officially classified in those new widescreen versions. Also, neither disc bears the BBFC registration number, making them illegal too! I reckon these will be withdrawn if trading standards find out.... What a mess!" As predicted, it sounds like they were not worth the wait. |
| March 17th 2002 Claudio Simonetti's latest project, DAEMONIA, are playing live in concert on the following dates: 5th April 2002 at Stazione Birra in Roma 6th April 2002 at Plan 9 in Padova |
| March 13th 2002 For those who can make it on Saturday the 16th of March, Dario will be in Brussels, Belgium for the Brussels Festival of Fantasy Film. He will open the festival on the 15th and will be there on the 16th in the Passage 44 watching his own movie SLEEPLESS. After that he will stay there for to talk to the audience. For more information click here. Thanks to Tracy for the info |
| March 10th 2002 The Japanese premiere of NONHOSONNO will be on March 30th at the Musashinokan in Tokyo. For more information, click here. Suspiria, Tenebre and Phenomena are screening from March 9th to 29th before this premiere. Thanks to Toshihiro for the info |
| March 08th 2002 The French premiere of NONHOSONNO will be on March 12th at the Gaumont Marignan in Paris at 20:15. Dario will be attending. Thanks to Thierry for the info |
| March 08th 2002 Here is some interesting news: Alan Jones writes: "I want to share some really good news with Dark Dreams on a Dario related subject. The documentary I was involved in on Mario Bava: Maestro of the Macabre has just been nominated for an 'Arts and Specials' Award at this year's Montreux Television Festival. While we don't get a Golden Rose if we win, just a certificate, that's fine by me. I'm so pleased about this because the documentary, along with 'An Eye For Horror', have sold so well around the world that the production company CreaTVty are certain to do more in the same vein. At last Bava is getting the mainstream attention he deserves - Black Sabbath was even featured on that Nokia TV commercial recently. Our competition is a BBC documentary on JK Rowling and a C4 special on magician Derren Brown. Even if we don't win, the nomination really is enough. And I never thought I'd ever be in a postion to say that and know the truth of that emotion when others react in the same way". |
| March 05th 2002 Eurotrash are doing a special on Asia geared around an interview they did on XXX. Her connection with Antoines de Caunes probably has something to do with this (he directed her in Les Morsures de l'aube). Alan Jones is supplying the stills and posters for the programme. Asia doesn't finish work on XXX until March 22 and so she probably won't start work on Dario's new film until June. Thanks to Alan for the info |
| February 24th 2002 According to a post on my forum, Argento's new film is titled NEL BUIO, the translation of which is IN THE DARKNESS. However, according to another source, this has already changed. It also seems that Dario is advertising sugar on Italian TV with the catch phrase "with this you will be able to sweeten even monsters". Strange indeed! Thanks to Marco for the info |
| February 19th 2002 Good news for US Asia Argento fans, Media Blasters has acquired the U.S. rights to SCARLET DIVA. You can expect a theatrical release, as well as a DVD in the near future. Thanks to Edwin for the info |
| February 15th 2002 The competition to win a copy of the SLEEPLESS DVD is now closed. The results are posted here. |
| February 13th 2002 For those that want another chance to see SLEEPLESS on the big screen, it is being shown at the Dead by Dawn festival held in Edinburgh this March. For more details visit www.deadbydawn.co.uk |
| February 12th 2002 The ongoing saga of the UK DVD releases of BIRD and PROFONDO ROSSO continues. Apparently the authoring house have at last started work on these titles and the prints being used are the same Italian language masters used recently by Film Four. No other details are available at the moment. Thanks to Marc for the info |
| February 12th 2002 There is another 2 disc DVD set of SLEEPLESS on the way from E-M-S in Germany. This time, the extra disc is the soundtrack CD. However, it's not all good news as this version of the film has even more cuts than the previous Sunfilm release in order to obtain a '16' rating.
It is released on 21/03/02. Thanks to Bato for the info |
| February 08th 2002 Over at the good old BBC website, there is an interview with Dario about SLEEPLESS and a review of the forthcoming DVD. |
| February 02nd 2002 Asia will be starring in Dario's new film. She will play a police woman in the new movie which starts shooting in Venice around April/May time. At the moment, the screenplay is being translated into English. Here is a link to a new Asia fan site. |
| January 29th 2002 Over at the Italian site horrorcult.com, NONHOSONNO is nominated for 4 awards. They are as follows:
|
| January 24th 2002 I just received this e-mail from Harvey at FAB Press: "Very pleased to be able to tell you that I have just received confirmation that the second hardcover edition of Art of Darkness is in the country. I should be sending out pre-ordered copies on Monday/Tuesday, 28/29 January, which means it's within three days of my predicted release date. The site says that the pre-release price of 22.99 will be in place until 25 January, but I have decided it is fairest of all to extend this until all pre-release orders have been despatched. Therefore, the "pre-release" offer price period is being extended until the end of January, so everyone who wants to buy the hardcover edition (strictly limited to 1000 copies only, ever) for 22.99 plus p+p should do so ASAP. very best wishes, Harvey Fenton FAB Press England" |
| January 23rd 2002 I am giving 5 copies of the forthcoming UK DVD of SLEEPLESS away in my latest competition courtesy of MIA. Just answer the three simple questions here. |
| January 21st 2002 I am reliably informed that any UK DVD release of PROFONDO ROSSO or BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE will not take place any time soon. The DVD authoring house have still not produced anything from the prints that they have. Also, the films have not been through the BBFC yet either. Thanks to Marc for the info |
| January 18th 2002 Apparently the German DVD release of SLEEPLESS has another cut which I previously had not indicated. The scene where the ballerina is killed is faded out quicker than it should be. Thanks to Kristian for the info |
| January 18th 2002 According to www.play.com, the UK DVD of PROFONDO ROSSO was released on 14th January. However, it also states that it is 4:3! Has anyone actually seen this for sale anywhere? If so, I suggest you avoid it. It will sell to a minority audience at best but to then release it fullscreen is foolhardy in the extreme. |
| January 18th 2002 For sale on-line is the VHS (only PAL format) with the 10 songs included in the CD SIMONETTI HORROR PROJECT played by Simonetti at the DOMIZIANO THEATER (Montepulciano-Italy) in 1991 with his group: Giacomo Castellano: Chitarra/Guitar Maurizio Colori: Basso/Bass Giulio Sirci: Batteria/Drums Tracks: Craws, Tenebre, Demon, Elucubration, Profondo Rosso-RAP featuring Dr. Felix, Suspiria, Ozone Free, Opera, Phenomena, Profondo Rosso-Rock version |
| January 11th 2002 Here is the DVD insert and a couple of menu shots for the forthcoming UK SLEEPLESS DVD from MIA. The menu's are animated and so the backgrounds are clips from the film.
Click here to order SLEEPLESS from www.blackstar.co.uk Big thanks to Clare at MIA. |
| January 10th 2002 I have read the introduction to MONDO ARGENTO REDUX, the new book coming from Alan Jones. It will be of particular interest to all those who want a more in depth look at Dario himself and what makes him tick as opposed to more analysis of the films. The book will contain only fact's as told to Alan by all those that he has interviewed over the years including those who were left out of the recent EYE FOR HORROR documentary. The book will hopefully be published in the late summer to coincide with this years Fright Fest and possible signings by Dario himself. I can't wait. |
| January 08th 2002 Here is the finished artwork for the UK DVD and VHS releases of SLEEPLESS from MIA:
|
| January 1st 2002 Tonight at 23.40 on UK TV channel 4, they are showing SUSPIRIA followed by the EYE FOR HORROR documentary. |
| January 1st 2002 I have received advance word on the cuts applied to the German DVD release of SLEEPLESS (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!):
|
